Overview

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) is the recognized authority on children’s oral health. Founded in 1947, The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry is a not-for-profit professional membership association representing the specialty of pediatric dentistry. Its 9,300 members provide primary care and comprehensive dental specialty treatments for infants, children, adolescents and individuals with special health care needs. It was of the utmost importance for The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry's new website feature a design and layout that was user friendly allowing users quick and easy access to the content they desire. Americaneagle.com deployed the user friendly Idev Content Management System (CMS), a web platform that would allow The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry the ability to manage members, upload published documents, and schedule events. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry now has a user friendly website and platform that will drive memberships and user activity.

Goals

A client of Americaneagle.com for over 10 years, AAPD came to Americaneagle.com once again in 2011 with a complex project. Their existing site suffered from a content-heavy look and poor segmentation of information. The AAPD wanted their new online presence to exist in four separate yet cohesive sites: the main APPD site, consumer site, Pediatric Dentistry Today site, and district sites.

Summary

The AAPD site includes a wealth of custom functionalities and navigation tools, including: Find a Pediatric Dentist, Residency Programs, Membership Directory, Articles, Classified Listings, and more. The consumer site, Healthy Smiles, Healthy Children, offers information for parents and guardians on the oral care of infants and children. The standalone site for Pediatric Dentistry Today now contains a full archive, allowing members and non-members alike to enjoy the content. Finally, the district sites received a graphical redesign that parallels the AAPD main site. AAPD now has fully targeted messaging, and is already reaping the benefits.

Since the redevelopment of AAPD’s four sites, they’ve seen increased engagement from their visitors. Average page views, visit duration,and number of pages visited have all increased since launch, and bounce rate has been significantly reduced by over 25%. PediatricDentistry Today has also seen steady increases in engagement for its members, averaging approximately 18% member engagement per month. “We’re an organization with an older membership demographic that can be very resistant to change when it comes to technology and the web, but I’ve heard unanimous praise for the redesigned site. It speaks volumes about the quality of the work produced that it’s been embraced so readily by our association’s membership,” explained Tom McHenry, Magazine and Web Editor, AAPD.
