Google Pay, Google’s new payment service, which replaces both Android Pay and Google Wallet, is no longer restricted to smartphones. It’s now available to a user both on the web and via the user’s smartphone, including the iPhone. If someone already has Wallet or Android Pay, these platforms will be automatically updated to Google Pay.
A Competitor to Apple Pay
Google’s payment service is arming itself to clash swords with Apple Pay on Apple’s own turf by rolling out its payment service on PCs, Macs, and iOS. And, what’s more, it’s not necessary for a consumer to have a dedicated app in order to use it. A quote from a Google blog post states:
“There are all kinds of ways you might try to get back time in your day, from looking up the fastest route to work to ordering takeout on your way home. Google Pay helps you save precious time at checkout - and get rewarded for it, too.”
Google Pay Rewards
Unfortunately, only Android device users who have the Google Pay app are currently eligible for Google Pay rewards. Here’s a link to Google’s instructions on how to set up Google Pay on an Android phone.
Google Pay Arrives on Several Browsers
If you shop inside Chrome, Firefox, or Safari, Google Pay will begin popping up as a payment option on almost any device. The service will be convenient and easy to use - you will only need to enter the details of a credit card once, and your billing and shipping addresses will also be auto-filled.
An Exciting Rollout
Google Pay is about securing Google's presence in the e-commerce world and catching up with Apple, which has been offering Apple Pay to web users since 2016. The current introduction is just the beginning; Google Pay has even bigger future plans for its service.
